Lalitha Sahasranamam(31-35)

31 KANAKANGADAKEYURAKAMANIYABHUJANVITA
Her arms are encircled with golden ornaments
The wearing of ornaments symbolizes the aradhana of beauty,so when she adorns ornaments it is like adding beauty to beauty itself. what is the spiritual significance of this .In ancient days people adorned themselves with flowers and herbs to ensure the medicinal value of it reaches them. For example Ashoka flower reliefs people of grief and sorrow, the kundan flower as it is commonly called has antiseptic properties and so on .Later on ornaments made of gold and silver were worn to exhibit one's riches. But the hindu sacred texts have a different version of it with regards to the ornaments worn by the Gods and Godesses.
"Her girdle and anklets jingled with clusters of tinkling bells.
She was adorned with a necklace, armlets, and bracelets of gold. Her throat resplendent with a chain of priceless gems."says one of the scriptures about devi .now let us see what the ornaments in her hand signifies. She helps us to u nderstand the importance of such a jeweleryNormally the wrist portion is in constant activation on any human. Also the pulse beat in this portion is mostly checked for all sort of ailments. Even though, pulse beat is counted from the wrist, the heart beat ratio too, is taken for checking one's health conditions. The Bangles used by women are normally in the wrist part of ones hand and its constant friction increases the blood circulation level. Or so it is believed. Further more the electricity passing out through outer skin is again reverted to one's own body because of the ring shaped bangles, which has no ends to pass the energy outside, but to send it back to the body. This way a women gains her strength which is presumably wasted otherwise. So the ancient Hindus gave shape to this item called Bangles and later it got molded in to many shapes and designs to add more attraction and beautification. Amongst other varieties of ornaments Bangle is most important for any women, it is felt and that too if it is made of Gold then only it gives you the aforesaid values & meaning. She helps us, to understand the scientific reason behind it when endorsed by her, men and women follow it without being troubled. The bangles worn by her is not made up of gold and silver but made up of the galaxies with different constellations studded in them, reminding thus though that, the world is in her hands.
The reference of the bangles and other ornaments is depicted in the Thiruvillaku sloga
"Kaivalaiyal kalagalavena kanaiyaazhi jyolikka kandaent
thanga ottiyaanam thagathagena jyolikka kandaen"

32 RATNAGRAIVEYACINTAKALOLAMUKTAPHALANVITA
Having a pearl dangling from the necklace of gems.

The pearls hanging around her neck symbolizes the different saints and sages who have been worshipingher and that reminds us of those who have devoted their entire life in pursuit of her.so she considers them to be the best gems she could ever wear and announcing to the world her intimacy with the bhakthas. As one of the devotee rightly describes her

"முழுப்பச்சை மாலை கண்டேன்;

மார்பில் பதக்கம் மின்ன மாலையசையக் கண்டேன்"

another interpretation could also be God takes notice even of our tears and saves them as jewels! She promises that those who sow in tears shall reap in joy Our tears will be turned into precious gems and she wears them as her ornament.

33.KAMESVARAPREMARATNAMANIPRATIPANASTANI
Her two breasts are the price offered in exchange for the priceless gem-the love of Kamesa.

Her two breast symbolises the concept of motherhood.she loves everyone the believer and the non believer alike. she has no difference in her affection for them .Her true devotee says thus:

கருத்தான எந்தைதன் கண்ணான,

வண்ணக் கனகவேர்ப்பின்பெருத்தன,

பால் அழும் பிள்ளைக்கு நல்கின,

பேர் அருள்கூர்த்திருத்தன பாரமும்;

ஆரமும், செங்கைச் சிலையும்,

அம்பும்,முருத்தன மூரலும், நீயும்,

அம்மே! வந்து என்முன் நிற்கவே
you ever occupy,
You who is like the ever-shining golden lamp ready to give light,
And are ready to give milk, to the crying child,
From your ever beautiful breasts,
Please come, you who wears the necklace of pearl in your neck,

You who hold the bow made of flowers in your hand,
And you who has white teeth like the base of peacocks feather,
And my mother come before me and stand.

The same kind of sentiments is revered in soundarya lahiri as well.

"Twa stanyam manye dharanidhara kanye hridhayatha

Paya paraabhaara parivahathi saaraswathamiva

Dhayavathya dhattham dravida sisu raaswadhya thava yat

Kaveenam proudana majani kamaniya kavayitha"

Oh daughter of the king of mountains,I feel in my mind,

That the milk that flows from your breast,

Is really the goddess of learning, Sarswathi,

In the form of a tidal wave of nectar.

For , milk given by you ,who is full of mercy,Made the child of Dravida

The king among those great poets,Whose works stole one’s mind.

In all the three it only talks about her compassion and love for her people and it gives a very strong sense that she will never ever leave those who trust her.

34.NABHYALAVALAROMALILATAPHALAKUCADVAYA

Her breasts are the fruits growing on the creeper like hair which springs from the deep navel.

Manipura chakra has an upward, consuming movement like flames.Identification, recognition, immortality, longevity and power are the motivations of a third chakra person. Selfless loyalties to friends and family cease as the person acts only for growing on the creeper like hair which springs form the deep navel. Here the reference is being made to be the navel and her breasts only indicates that the power of mankind to control his chakra and seek salvation and have no longer any concern with attachments to worldly pleasures, honors or humiliations. It is in the heart chakra that Kundalini Shakti appears for the first time asa beautiful goddess.
She sits in lotus posture within a triangle. The triangle is pointing upward, showing the tendency of Shakti to move upward and carry the aspirant into the higher planes of existence.so navel could be the tapas of shiva and her breasts are place of for unification of love and compassion which helps holy men to move to ahigher plane of worship.

"Sthiro gangavartha sthana mukula romaa vali latha

Kalaabhalam kundam kusuma sara thejo hutha bhuja

Rathe leelamgaram kimapi thava nabhir giri suthe

Bhila dwaram siddhe rgirisa nayananam vijayathe"

Oh daughter of the mountain,

Is your navel a whirl pool in river Ganga,

Which looks very stable!Or is it the root of the climber,

Of the stream of your hair line,

Which has two breasts of yours as buds,Or is it the Homa fire,

Where the fire is the light from cupid,

Or is it the play house of Rathi, the wife of God of love,

Or is it the opening to the cave,

In which Shiva’s tapas gets fulfilled,

I am not able to make up my mind!of her sakthi and hence the comparision to the breasts have been made.

35.LAKSHYAROMALATADHARATASAMUNNEYAMADHYAMA
Her waist is to be inferred only from a group of creeper like hair

Her waist is often the point of envy, she is often referred to as kodi edaiyaal meaning a person with the waist like that of a creeper. It si often refered to thus because just as a creeper sways with the breeze so also devi moves around with her holy men and often grants wishes not based on their personality but on the tapas which often swings the balance of equality and later she overdoes it with affection. She is a person easily swayed by compassion and her devotees love for her.So her devotees are very often quick to point out this .

"Nisargha ksheenasya sthana thata bharena klamajusho

Namanmurthe narree thilaka sanakaii –sthrutayatha eva

Chiram thee Madhyasya thruthitha thatini theera tharuna

Samavasthaa sthemno bhavathu kusalam sailathanaye"

Oh daughter of the mountain,

You who is the greatest among women,

Long live your pretty hips,Which look fragile,

Which are by nature tiny,

Which are strained by your heavy breasts,

And hence slightly bent,And which look like the tree,

In the eroded banks of a rushing river.

It is true in every sense of the term.
